Ibn Masud’s Thoughts

About

This is not a blog on the famous companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This blog is a collection of my own personal thoughts on topics that I think will be beneficial in our quest to be closer to Allah.

Who am I? I am the second son of Masud Ali (hence I have chosen Ibn Masud! as my blog title.) My father has played a great role in my understanding of Islam and the world. His sacrifice and dedication for Islam and Muslims have inspired me throughout my life. May Allah give my Mother (cannot thank Allah enough for her love and care) and Father a long, beneficial life in this world and keep us together in Jannah.

My name is Abul Ala Morshed. I was named after the great reviver of Islam of the last century Sayyid Abul Ala Mawdudi (1903-1979). My father gave me my name (on the insistence of his fellow workers of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh) when he came to know of my birth and the death of the great reviver at the same time.

I have lived the first fifteen years of my life at Dhaka, Bangladesh (became ‘shathi’ of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir along the way) and moved to Toronto, Canada with my ever caring family (squished in between two sisters and two brothers!) afterwards.

The day of my arrival my father convinced us to become the member of Islamic Circle of North America. While working with them came across Shahid Farouqi, Abdul Malik Mujahid and Arif Zia which led to me become one of the founding members of Young Muslims Canada the same year.

At the age of twenty one I tied the knot with passionate, caring and beautiful Tahmina Reza (a Sayyida, according to her uncles!) who has given me exposure to a whole new outlook on life that can only be experienced through a women’s mind. While we were busy working together in our Islamic work and studies we were blessed with the greatest blessing of Allah a married couple can have! We named him Musa so that he can strive to be as strong in character and physique as was Prophet Musa, peace be upon him.

Throughout my involvement in Islamic work I have shared some of my thoughts through articles, Friday sermons, emails and phone calls but most of my thoughts had remained with me. The worry of being accountable to Allah for not sharing those thoughts has finally convinced me to start this initiative.

These are my thoughts based on my study, interaction and experience. If they are beneficial may Allah help us to infuse them and if they are harmful may Allah erase them from our hearts.
